It all started ten years ago. HK was riding his orange bike through the park and got a flat tire. Imagine, being stuck miles from home with a flat tire. What a nightmare! Luckily John, who was also riding a bike (his a beautiful black bike), saw a fellow biker in need of help, stopped and helped fix HK's flat tire... and they fell in love.
Now I'm a horrible story teller but doesn't that sound like the plot of the next big chick flick starring Rachel McAdams? I know right? Super romantic.
HK and John have been together for 10 years but with everything that's happened in the last year with marriage equality, the wanted to make it official and celebrate the legal and spiritual union with a fabulous party, and of course an amazing cake :)
How could I not want to make this deserving couple an amazing wedding cake?

HK and John wanted a clean modern design for their cake with some kind of cake topper that had to do with bicycles. They actually ordered the plastic toppers above from etsy. After giving it some thought I really couldn't get over the beauty of the story of how they met. I just couldn't throw two plastic bikes on the top of the cake. I decided to make the bikes myself from gum paste (kind of like a sugar clay). I suggested adding succulents (yes, I LOVE succulents!) to add a masculine but elegant detail to the cake.
I finally convinced HK and John to let me made the toppers (I assured them, the toppers would be awesome and personal and add to the special day).
The cake was also delicious. The couple chose a fresh lemon cake layered with coconut cake with a raspberry preserve and a delightful swiss meringue buttercream. It was an amazing combination and I'm happy to have created such a tasty cake for such a loving couple.

The ceremony and reception was held at the Landmarc Restaurant at The Time Warner Center in Columbus Circle. They have the most amazing views...
The cake in all it's glory...
HK and John are a very special couple & I felt truly honored to have made their wedding cake.
Cheers to a lovely couple. xo
