A cake inspired by one kick ass dress

It all started with a dress.

Jessica and Peer are New Yorkers, through and through.  They were in love and just wanted to be married. They are totally no fuss, no non-sense New Yorkers :)  They decided they wanted a small wedding in their West Village neighborhood.    In fact, when they got engaged Jessica didn't even go dress shopping.  One of her girlfriends emailed her a picture of a dress... and Jessica loved it and bought it without a second thought.

That little dress her friend emailed her?  A completely kick ass Alexander McQueen designer wedding dress.  Did I mention Jessica is like 6 feet tall and gorgeous (and super duper smart)?!

Yeah, she can pull off a designer dress :)

When Jessica and Peer first contacted me about their wedding cake, they only knew two things.

1) Their venue: which was a super cute, neighborhood restaurant called the little owl

2) Jessica's amazing designer wedding dress (pictured above)

They were super open to different ideas and we had a great time throwing around ideas.  Jessica and Peer wanted a classy, clean, garden party inspired cake.  Jessica forwarded me a few pictures of flowers (roses, lilies and orchids) and told me to run with the cake design.

and that is what I did...

After talking with the lovely couple I came up with the following four ideas.

I usually provide couples with 2-3 sketches.  After I created the three sketches for Jessica and Peer I couldn't help but do one more sketch inspired more by that kickass dress I told you all about earlier in this post... remember the Alexander McQueen one with awesome lace?  Yeah, that one.

I really wanted to incorporate the awesome lace work of Jessica's dress in the cake design.  I threw in the fourth sketch on a whim.  But you know what?  They loved the fourth sketch.  They said it won by a landslide.

I am so happy to report that Peer and Jessica had a lovely wedding and enjoyed their cake thoroughly.

*Thank you Jessica and Peer, for allowing me to make your cake.  I loved every minute of it :)  xo
